Spartan Press signed a contract back in March 2010 with the distinguished cellist Mats Lidström, to exclusively distribute his specialist catalogue of works for Cello from April 19th 2010.
Mats first came to London as the Principal Cellist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Previn and later with Ashkenazy. He has since guest-lead and appeared as a soloist with many major orchestras including the Philharmonia, LSO, Academy of St. Martin’s in the Fields, BBC Scottish S.O., Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Los Angeles and Oslo Philharmonic, and the major orchestras of Sweden. He is a professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music and has recorded extensively on various labels including Hyperion, Caprice and Musica Sveciae.
He is also a very nice bloke, and his passion for cello is reflected throughout the titles that he publishes through his new publishing company ‘CelloLid’. The catalogue includes fun educational music for young cellists, as well as a wonderful series called “if Bach was a cellist...” which lives the fantasy that everything Bach wrote, he wrote for the cello.
